These routes changed on Sept. 6

On Saturday, Sept. 6, changes were made to several Metro Transit and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority routes.

This list is an overview of the changes. If your route is listed, please pick up an updated schedule for details. Schedules are available now on buses and trains and at Metro Transit stores and outlets. Links to schedules also are provided below.

Downtown Minneapolis road construction

The City of Minneapolis is rebuilding Marquette and 2nd Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis. Buses that travel on either street are on detour (eff. Sept. 8). Construction and detours will be suspended during the winter and resume in the spring.

Route 2
• This route will have improved frequency during parts of the day on weekdays and weekends to accommodate customer demand.
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Westbound trips that end at Willey Hall will be marked Route 2E.
• Eastbound weekend trips after 10:30 p.m. will become Route 2C trips.
• Westbound weekend trips after 11 p.m. will start at 6th St. SE & East Hennepin instead of Jones Hall.

Route 3
• Trips will be added to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester (eff. Sept. 2). Although these trips will operate beginning Sept. 2, they appear in the printed schedule dated 9/06/2008.
• Westbound buses will no longer board on 5th & Cedar. Customers should board buses at 4th on Cedar or on Wabasha.
• The westbound trip that now leaves Kasota & Hwy. 280 at 5:10 p.m. will remain on Como Ave. Customers can transfer to a new trip that will serve Kasota & Hwy. 280 at Como & Eustis at 5:09 p.m.
• Frequency of service will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 6
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.
• Additional early morning and late-night service will be added (formerly Route 12 service).
• The northbound bus that currently arrives at midnight in downtown will arrive at 12:05 a.m.

Route 11
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 12
• Most early morning and late-night service to and from downtown will now be provided on Route 6.
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions and customer demand.
• Sunday service will operate every 45 minutes with expanded service to Hopkins.
• Weekend, midday, evening and some weekday rush-hour trips will follow a new route on 11th Ave. in Hopkins between Excelsior and Mainstreet. These trips will not travel west of 11th Ave.
• Buses will no longer travel into the Methodist Hospital campus. Customers should board buses on Excelsior.

Route 16
• Schedule times and frequency of service will be adjusted to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester. Midday service will be operated with articulated (accordion) buses.

Route 17
• An added weekday rush-hour trip will serve 36th & Wooddale.
• Weekday service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.
• The Saturday trip that leaves Target-Knollwood at 9:03 p.m. will instead leave at 9:07 p.m.

Route 19
• Weekday and Saturday trips that serve Robbinsdale Transit Center after 11 p.m. will instead serve Brooklyn Center Transit Center.

Route 22
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.
• The southbound weekday trip that leaves 69th & Humboldt at 5:04 a.m. will instead leave at 5 a.m. in response to customer requests.

Route 23
• The weekday westbound trip that leaves Minnesota Veterans’ Home at 11:06 p.m. will instead leave at 11:16 p.m. to accommodate an end of a work shift. On weekends, the westbound trip that leaves at 11:07 p.m. from the same location will instead
leave at 11:17 p.m.

Route 24
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 50
• Schedule times and frequency of service will be adjusted to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.

Route 55 (Hiawatha Line)
• Some rush-hour schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 61
• The weekday trip that leaves Smith Ramp at 3:36 p.m. will instead leave at 3:39 p.m. in response to customer requests.

Route 63
• Weekday midday service to Grand Ave. and McKnight Rd. will be improved. Midday trips will operate every 20 minutes between Summit & Finn and McKnight Rd. & Lower Afton Rd.
• The evening and Sunday eastbound trips that do not serve Suburban Ave. & White Bear Ave. will become Route 63L trips. Overhead signs will show which westbound trips travel via Suburban.
• Weekend and weekday schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions. Most Saturday eastbound trips will shift two to seven minutes later through downtown.
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match consumer demand.

Route 64
• Service via Margaret St. will resume due to the end of the North St. Paul detour. As a result, schedule times, including those in downtown, will be adjusted.
• The Saturday westbound trip that starts at Hillcrest Shopping Center at 12:33 a.m. will instead start at Maplewood Mall Transit Center at 12:22 a.m. in response to customer requests.
• Rush-hour service and schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 74
• Weekday and weekend schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Weekday frequency of service will be adjusted to better match customer demand.
• The first weekday eastbound trip that leaves 46th Street Station at 4:27 a.m. will instead begin at 5th St. & 7th St. at 4:54 a.m. Alternate service is available on Route 54.
• The last Saturday eastbound trip that leaves 46th Street Station will be extended to serve Sun Ray Transit Center, leaving 5th & Minnesota at 1:15 a.m.
• All Sunday eastbound service after 6 p.m. will leave from 46th St. Station at 25 minutes after the hour.

Route 111/113/114/115 (eff. Sept. 2)
• Service will increase to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.

Route 118 (eff. Sept. 2)
• Service will increase to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.

Route 144
• Some schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand and to accommodate starting times of work shifts.

Route 146
• Schedule times and frequency of service will be adjusted to accommodate use of articulated (accordion) buses on this route.

Route 152 (eff. Sept. 2)
• Service will increase to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.
• An added trip will leave the U of M at 4:28 p.m.

Route 156
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Buses will no longer travel on 1st St. in order to avoid congestion at 1st St. & 3rd Ave.

Route 250
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Route 272 (eff. Sept. 2)
• Service will increase to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.
• The trip that leaves Maplewood Mall at 6:53 a.m. will be replaced with trips that leave at 6:47 a.m. and 7:02 a.m.
• The 9:06 a.m. trip that operated last school year will be eliminated due to low demand.

Route 361
• The two northbound trips arriving at 6th & Cedar at 7:05 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. will be combined into one trip arriving at 7:10 a.m.

Route 557/558
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better reflect traffic conditions.
• Buses will provide local service on Diamond Lk. Rd. and Lyndale north of 56th St.
• Buses will continue traveling the loop on 2nd Ave., 2nd St., 3rd Ave. and 3rd St. in downtown Minneapolis.

Route 576
• Schedule times and frequency of service will be adjusted to better match customer demand.
• Buses will continue traveling the loop on 2nd Ave., 2nd St., 3rd Ave. and 3rd St. in downtown Minneapolis.

Route 578
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Route 578D trips will be rerouted. Customers should board morning buses on eastbound Highwood Dr.
• Service on 84th St. east of Chalet Rd. and on 78th St. between 78th and Cahill Rd. will be eliminated.

Route 589
• Buses will be rerouted in Bloomington to provide faster service to the Park & Ride lots at Normandale Village and St. Edwards Church.
• All trips will travel on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.
• Service will be discontinued on East Bush Lk. Rd., 84th St., Highwood Dr., 102nd St. and on 98th between Normandale and Nesbitt.

Route 597
• Buses will continue traveling the loop on 2nd Ave., 2nd St., 3rd Ave. and 3rd St. in downtown Minneapolis.

Route 652 (Eff. Sept. 2)
• Service will increase to accommodate demand with the start of U of M’s fall semester.
• New trips will be added at 8:14 a.m. from Plymouth Road Transit Center and 5:37 p.m. from the U of M.

Route 671
• The timepoint at 1st St. & 2nd Ave. will be moved to 3rd & Nicollet.
• A timepoint will be added at Washington & Hennepin.
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.

Route 675
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Midday eastbound trips will operate earlier to accommodate connections at Louisiana Avenue Transit Center.
• Some eastbound morning trips will end at Nicollet Mall & 3rd St.
• Eastbound trips that leave Wayzata Park & Ride at 7:56 a.m. and 3:34 p.m. will instead leave Plymouth Road Transit Center at 8:10 a.m. and 3:56 p.m., respectively.
• The eastbound trip that leaves Plymouth Road Transit Center at 5:41 p.m. will be eliminated.
• The westbound trip that arrives at Mound Transit Center at 7:32 a.m. will end at Wayzata Park & Ride at 7:14 a.m.
• The westbound trip that leaves Gateway Ramp at 6:45 a.m. will leave 2 minutes earlier and will become a Route 675D trip.
• The westbound trip that leaves Nicollet Mall & 3rd St. at 5:21 p.m. will be eliminated. Departures around that time will be adjusted.
• The westbound trip that leaves Gateway Ramp at 2:31 p.m. will become a Route 675B trip.

Route 677
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match traffic conditions.
• Morning trips will end at 3rd & Nicollet instead of Gateway Ramp.

Route 767
• Five new morning and five new afternoon trips will be added.
• Southbound buses will leave 63rd Ave. Park & Ride every 15 to 30 minutes from 5:17 a.m. to 8:23 a.m.
• Northbound buses will leave downtown every 15 to 30 minutes from 3:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m.
• Route 767C trips will be added to serve 65th Ave. N. & Brooklyn Blvd. Park & Ride. Buses will travel on 63rd Ave. and Brooklyn Blvd.
• Route 767 will appear with Route 760 on one printed schedule.

Route 850
• Schedule times will be adjusted to better match customer demand.

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority

Note for Routes 460, 464, 465, 470, 476 and 477
Buses will travel on 3rd Ave. for the duration of Marquette/2nd road construction project in downtown Minneapolis. Schedule times on these routes may be shifted slightly.

Wait and meet comments associated with other routes will be adjusted on many schedules.

Route 420
• Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride at 13885 South Robert Trail will be added as a stop within the flex service area for this route.

Route 440
• Northbound routing in the area of Founder’s Lane will be modified slightly.

Route 460
• The “N” terminal will be eliminated. All trips previously with “N” terminal will travel only between Burnsville Transit Station and downtown Minneapolis.
• The 6:59 a.m. northbound trip will be extended to serve the U of M.
• Some afternoon schedule times will be adjusted to accommodate customer demand.
• The 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. southbound trips will become Route 465 trips departing Gateway Ramp at 6:33 and 6:48 p.m., respectively.
• Route 465 trips will no longer be included on the Route 460 schedule.

Route 464
• The new terminal “A” designates northbound trips that leave Co. Rd. 42 & Irving Avenue at 6:46 a.m. and 7:16 a.m. (replacement service for eliminated 460N trips).
• New terminal “A” designates southbound trips that depart Gateway Ramp at 3:03 p.m. and 3:53 p.m., returning to Co. Rd. 42 & Irving Ave. (replacement service for eliminated 460N trips).
• The 6:30 a.m. northbound trip will move to 6:25 a.m.; the 4:03 p.m. southbound trip will move to 4:13 p.m.
• A segment along Burnsville Pkwy. is now limited stop service. Designated stops are at Burnsville Parkway/Judicial/Southcross, Thomas (northbound), Upton (southbound), Co. Rd. 5, Aldrich and Pleasant.

Route 465
• A new northbound trip will leave Apple Valley Transit Station at 7:02 a.m. (Burnsville Transit Station at 7:35 a.m.).
• A new southbound trip will leave 25th Ave. & 4th St. at 4:16 p.m.
• Former 460 trips at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. will become 465 trips that leave Gateway Ramp at 6:33 and 6:48 p.m., respectively.
• The 6:59 a.m. trip will be extended to serve the U of M.

Route 477
• A new northbound trip will leave Apple Valley Transit Station at 6:27 a.m.; the 6:21 a.m. trip will move to 6:17 a.m.; and the 6:18 a.m. trip (from 157th St. Station) will move to 6:20 a.m.
• A new southbound trip will leave Gateway Ramp at 3:48 p.m.; the 3:30 p.m. trip will move to 3:26 p.m.; the 3:54 p.m. trip will move to 3:52 p.m.; and the 4:59 p.m. trip will move to 4:57 p.m.

Route 479 NEW!
• This route will provide service between Rosemount and downtown Minneapolis.
• Two trips will leave Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride, travel to 157th St. Station and then travel nonstop into downtown Minneapolis.
• Northbound trips leave Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride at 6:19 a.m. and 6:48 a.m.; serve 157th St. Station at 6:29 a.m. and 6:58 a.m.; and arrive 3rd & 7th at 7:20 a.m. and 7:41 a.m.
• Southbound trips leave Gateway Ramp at 4:03 p.m. and 4:31 p.m., arriving at 157th St. Station at 5 p.m. and 5:33 p.m. and at Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride at 5:10 p.m. and 5:43 p.m.
